Pain of any kind is no joke. It’s important to take care of your feet and ankles because we use them every day! Unfortunately, pain in the foot or ankle is common in many professions, both in and out of the office. These stretches can help reduce that pain.
1. Begin sitting in a chair with your feet on the ground. Rest your right ankle on the knee of the left leg, and hold your foot with your left hand. Use your hand to move your foot up and hold the position, then lower your foot slowly and hold that position. Repeat a few times, then switch feet.
2. Sit on the ground with your feet out in front of you. Wrap a small towel around your toes and pull back gently until you feel a stretch. Once you have reached a length that is comfortable for you, hold the position. After you release, repeat a few times.
3. Begin in a standing position facing a wall. Bring one leg forward toward the wall, while keeping the other one further back. Slightly bend your knee of the leg in front, and lean into the wall until you feel a stretch. Hold the position, as long as desired, then release. Switch legs and repeat.
If you are spending a lot of time at a desk, or on your feet, make sure you switch up your position every so often, to keep your body moving. Make sure your chair is comfortable, and go for short walks, or rests often, depending on your job.
